Create space to upskill managers and leaders with e-learning

Why you should create space to upskill your managers and leaders

Erica explores workforce demands, strategic priorities and the importance of upskilling your managers and leaders to make things happen.

What are the key things you are going after in your capability or people strategy this year?

Leadership?
Critical skills?
Digital Literacy?
Innovation?
Sustainability?

I bet at least 2 or 3 of those are on your list.

But how are you going to achieve quality, impact, stakeholder satisfaction and engagement, which doesn’t just ‘box tick’ but truly adds retained skills and increases organisational value and impact?

Recent research: Workforce demands are now defining strategic priorities

According to recent research and reporting from LinkedIn, Skills Advantage Report and Workplace Learning Report, 2023, the skill sets for jobs have changed by around 25% since 2015. This includes your managers and leaders. The workforce now demands three key things from their employers:

  1. Meaningful work
  2. Development opportunities
  3. Authentic leadership.

And it’s your leaders and managers who are positioned in the perfect place to make this happen.

But you need to make sure they are ready for this, and they have the human skills, knowledge, and behaviours to lead your organisation. And according to the World Economic Forum’s Future of Jobs report 2023, leadership skills is a strategic priority for businesses which is due to the need for leaders who can connect and deliver through others.

But how do you do this in a hybrid, remote, changeable, uncertain (insert descriptor which fits your organisation here!) environment?

This is why you should create space for the Learning Space e-learning.

Upskilling your managers and leaders: Say goodbye to traditional e-Learning

The Learning Space is a method of e-learning, which works by housing a wealth of learning tools based on your chosen course. These tools are curated and designed to enhance learning, increase retention, and deliver knowledge that’s transferrable into the workplace.

Unlike traditional e-Learning, the Learning Space provides an opportunity for each individual learner to build their personalised learning pathway, whilst still meeting the intended learning outcomes.

The Learning Space: e-learning ensuring neurodivergence and accessibility are at the heart of its design

We know that up to 40% of the UK workforce self-classify as neurodivergent, and accessibility is becoming even more important to organisations even becoming a scorecard measure of success.

Therefore, learning design needs to adapt and change to support these strategic imperatives.

We have built this e-learning with 3 key principles at the heart of its design:

  1. It’s adaptive – Providing greater control over the pace and order of the learning content the learning space is split into manageable topics and short bursts of learning which can be easier used in the flow of work.
  2. It’s personalised – As there is no linear order to consuming the learning, learners can complete and engage with the tools in a way which feels more comfortable and can change anytime based upon mood, preference, or environment.
  3. It’s flexible – Activities can be selected to be completed in available time and is supported by a toolkit of resources and activities which can be used on any compatible device enabling learning to happen on a dog walk, during home working, in the office, or anywhere else.

This flexibility of the Learning Space also means learning no longer must be crammed into the 9 to 5, which we know is another innovation following the pandemic; choice.

Time to ‘switch and ditch’

So now it’s time to put your hand on your heart and ask yourself these questions:

  1. Does your eLearning do what you need it to do? Or is it just there to provide compliance reports?
  2. How do you intend to build the skills in your managers and leaders, so your organisation is future fit?
  3. How do you plan to do to scale up access and impact of learning and development without your budget and costs growing alongside?
